Matthew Paradis

Music Instructor

Matthew has been immersed in music since the age of seven when he began taking piano lessons. Highly enthusiastic about music from an early age, he started cello lessons two years later, studying with the Suzuki method. At the age of ten Matthew and his family moved from Atlanta, GA, to Boulder, CO where he attended Shining Mountain Waldorf School. While there he played cello in the school orchestra for five years. After picking up guitar in middle school, Matthew formed his first band in high school. During this time he fell in love with the art of recording, producing two albums with his high school band, Statewide Emergency. Matthew was also part of his high school A cappella group, high school jazz band, and had lead roles in the school musicals (The Hot Mikado and West Side Story). Additionally he studied upper level music theory including four-part counterpoint composition.

Matthew went on to study guitar performance and recording arts at the University of Colorado Denver where he received his BS in Music. In his private guitar instruction at UCD Matthew focused on jazz guitar, with an emphasis on improvising as well as chord melodies. Additionally, he participated in the pop rock ensemble for three semesters, and was a member of the chamber ensemble for two. During college, Matthew also took courses on teaching private lessons, as well as sight singing and music history. Outside of school he was a founding member of the band Fluorescent Phobia, which gigged around Denver for several years opening for acts including Mini Mansions, Widowspeak, and The Preatures. They also released one EP, Incandescence. Matthew was a founding member of the Denver based band Diamond Lake. After graduating UCD in 2014, Matthew began teaching guitar, voice, and piano lessons, working as a freelance teacher and providing teaching services through Accent Music. Matthew became a teacher with In Home Music Teachers in May of 2018.

As a teacher, Matthew is passionate about providing his students with the necessary instruction for them to improve as musicians, while broadening their musical background. He accomplishes this through careful lesson planning aimed at making lessons fun as well as informative. Matthew believes that great music and musicians develop from the joy of making music. He aims to cultivate this joy in his students by working with them on their musical goals in addition to developing their technical skill.

In addition to teaching, Matthew runs Sinking Tree Studios, a recording studio aimed at providing musicians high quality recordings in a relaxed atmosphere. The studio features a nice selection of quality pre-amps, microphones, and signal processing that can capture any sound authentically. Additionally there are high end instruments and amplifiers available for use. Matthew's astute musical sensibilities are also very valuable in providing his clients excellent results.

Matthew released a debut EP with his current band, Bathing Lagoon, in May of 2019. After playing a sold out release show at Lost Lake Lounge in Denver, the band is gearing up for their debut show in Boulder at The Fox Theater.
